12 in 2012 Calendar

I have started compiling my list of hikes that I plan to do for my "12 in 2012" challenge.  If you haven't read about it, you can read about it here

January:      San Jacinto State Park in Palm Springs, CA
February:    Montjuic in Barcelona Spain
March:        Camelbak Mountain in Arizona
April:          Pihea Trail Kauai HI
May:           Little Si North Bend WA
June:           Cape Horn Trail Portland OR

This is all I have so far.  I will be going to Switzerland and Italy at the same time as Barcelona so I will try to research hikes there.  If you know of any must do hikes in these countries, let me know.  This will be a bit of a whirlwind type of trip and we are bringing the boys, so we are trying to fit everything possible into a small amount of time.

I also really want to do some hiking in Colorado.  Where do you think my hiking challenge should take me?  Is there a great hiking destination in your state that you think I should add to my list?  I would love to hear from you!

Happy Hiking!

  2. I was trying to come up with hikes in Switzerland, but in February, they are all skiing mountains, not hiking mountains. If ever you go back in the summer, then that would be hiking time at its best.
Very inspiring list, by the way! :)

  5. FYI - the lower loop of the Cape Horn trail is closed from January 1st to July 1st. You may want to postpone your hike here until July. A good alternative for June would be Dog Mtn - on the WA side of the Gorge just east of Stevenson. It's a steep hike, but the flowers on top are incredible in early June. Another good Gorge hike is the Eagle Creek Trail near the Bonneville Dam on the OR side. Tons of cool waterfalls. If you come hiking this way, let me know. I might be able to meet you at the trailhead and show you around.

  6. You should hike the Dolomites in Italy. I've never done it, but I read a blog by a woman (her husband and toddler too) who had done it. The scenery was spectacular. Apparently there are hiking trails everywhere and many of them connect one small village to the next. So you could hike to a new destination everyday, spend the night in the village and keep on going however long you wanted to.

Sounds like an exciting 2012. Enjoy your trips!

  9. Lauterbrunnen Valley in the Berner Oberland of Switzerland. So awesome. We've only been in August...which seems to be the perfect month for hiking there. Sounds like you are working on a FAB line-up! Enjoy!
